ON THE RADIO

Chris Wallis, Managing Director and Executive Producer of Watershed Productions is also a radio producer, first with the BBC, then The Watershed Partnership with Jill Waters, and now with Ned Chaillet at Autolycus Productions. Autolycus is a character in The Winters Tale, ‘a snapper-up of unconsidered trifles’; in Greek mythology he is the son of Hermes and grandfather of Odysseus; and in The Archers, it’s the name of Debbie Aldridge’s horse! (Chris was a producer on The Archers in 1994.)

His recent work includes Spread A Little Happiness, a R4 comedy series by John Godber and Jane Thornton starring Suranne Jones, Sue Cookson, Neil Dudgeon, Joanne Froggatt and Ralph Brown; a stage transfer from Liverpool Playhouse of Roger McGough’s version of Moliere’s Tartuffe for R3; Barbara Pym’s Jane And Prudence for R4 Woman’s Hour Serial starring Penelope Wilton, Susie Blake, Emma Fielding and Elizabeth Spriggs; and A Christmas Carol for R4 Book at Bedtime read by David Jason. He is particularly proud of an innovative 48 episode comedy series he made for BBC 7 Children’s called Whoosh!! And coming soon Barbara Pym’s An Unsuitable Attachment dramatised by Jennie Howarth for R4 Woman’s Hour and the fantastic children’s book by Lynne Reid Banks The Indian In The Cupboard for R4 Saturday Play.
